hi
if your flap opens then you can just pull the flap off the metal hindge pin. To refit the flap you need to lift the metal hindge pin (or lower) then put the flap into position and move the metal hindge pin back into its postion. its a job that is easier with 2 people.
its a very common problem on the 406, usually the flap will not lock due to the plastic breaking on the flap next to the metal hindge.

Hi Thanks for that
I have tried manouvering the pin.
But because of the way it sits
It seems impossible to slide up or down
Well it does slightly but not enough to slide out the pin
You are spot on though, it is the middle part that has snapped
Is there a way of getting it out without pushing the pin up or down
Thanks for replying by the way

hi
you do not have to get the hindge pin all the way out. if you look at the hindge pin carefully you will see it is a different thickness at different points. The idea is to fit the flap onto the thinner points of the metal pin and tap the pin with a punch so that the thicker points go through the plastic supports on the flap.
The pins do sieze. you must get the thinner points completely in view, clip the flap onto them and then knock the thicker parts through.
Thats how we used to fit them in our dealership, it was a job you did whilst the customer waited, but it was also a 2 man job. getting at the pin to knock it through whilst holding the flap is not easy.
one of the other peugeot lads on here may well know an easier way but the way i have described is the quick way as we worked on a bonus scheme.

just to add to the last bit. To get the flap off just open the flap and pull on it

Hi Thanks for your reply
I had a good luck this morning,
And can see what you mean about the pin.
I managed to get the old one off the way you described
I even went to a salvage yard and showed the lad how to get it off.
Now all I have to do is get the pin through 3 holes rather than one
But as you say
It should just clip on when I lift up the pin.
Thanks once again for your help much appreciated

How about the indicator stalk
Is it a hole unit as the dealer says it is
And they want 200 quid for it by the way
Or do you think I could just manage to replace the stalk and not the hole unit

Yes it has, so it looks as though its the full unit.
I have been getting quoted 70 quid from salvage yards on the net
But its a bit of a risk.
All the yards here don't seem to have any newer modles in yet
Must all be carful drivers these 2001 owners
