I would be suprised if you could tow with an escort van we have a very light weight caravan and could not legally tow with an astra deisel van so I wouldnot think it is possible go into halfords look in a haynes manual for your van and you will find the weights you are looking for without having to buy the manual.

I noticed your reply to someones question regarding towing a caravan. I own a 1300cc escort, do you think it would be possible to tow a 12ft 625kg caravan with it ?

Had a look in the manual for you as Halfords wrap theirs up so you carn't have a quick read. Kerb weight of 55 assuming 1600cc engine is 885Kg, 85% = 727Kg however Ford or rather Haynes quote max trailer weight is 408Kg for all models except 1100cc which is 245Kg Personnally I think this is wrong as 408 Kg is the stated payload for the 35 van were as the payload for the 55 is 772Kg' and as the owner of a 1600 Escort Estate for 13 years until last Febuary, who towed a 850kg van and get this a 1250kg trailer, not at the same time I might add, covering many 1000s of miles with the trailer and encounted no problems at all. It would need checking with a main dealer of cause but somethings wrong somewhere.
